The Paris Air Show (Salon International de l’Aéronautique et de l’Espace, Paris – Le Bourget) is the world’s oldest and largest international aerospace and aviation industry event. It is organized by the French aerospace industry GIFAS (Groupement des Industries Françaises Aéronautiques et Spatiales) every odd year (2005, 2007) in June and attracts 2,000 exhibitors and 500,000 visitors. The trade show takes place at Le Bourget Airport located about 6 miles northeast of Paris, France. The upcoming Paris Air Show will take place June 18-24, 2007.
The Paris Air Show is a focal point for The Mobile Airport Authority's aerospace economic development. On June 11th at the 2005 Paris Air Show, the Authority and Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a dinner for senior executives from Airbus and EADS-North America, Senator Jeff Sessions, Congressman Jo Bonner, Governor Bob Riley, Mobile City and County representatives and others in a last minute effort to reinforce our candidacy for the EADS/Northrop Grumman aircraft assembly and Airbus engineering center sites. On June 22nd, 2005, EADS-NA selected the Airport Authority's Brookley Complex for both facilities. In June 2007 a Regional Aerospace Leadership Team lead by Mobile Mayor Sam Jones, including the Mobile Airport Authority, Mobile Chamber of Commerce, Jackson County Chamber of Commerce and Mobile and Baldwin City Council and County Commission will travel to Paris to: 1. Recruit new aerospace industry jobs and investment 2. Support existing aerospace industry business development 3. Demonstrate to industry leaders and elected officials the community’s commitment to aerospace 4. Network and build relationships with industry representatives 5. Reinforce the region’s image of a strong aerospace industry cluster, regional teamwork, extraordinary logistics infrastructure, strong workforce, outstanding quality of life, strong political support, and high professional standards The Gulf Coast Region is in its greatest period of economic expansion and on track to become one of the world’s largest centers for aerospace and aviation. To make that future a reality the Regional Aerospace Leadership Team will build on the region's strategic advantages to cooperatively support regional economic development. Read More – History… Twenty years ago, Mobile targeted aviation and aerospace for economic development. Since then, Mobile Aerospace Engineering, Star Aviation, Airinc, Crestview Aerospace, Teledyne Continental and BF Goodrich chose sites in Mobile and Baldwin counties to expand or build new facilities. The Brookley Complex in Mobile was a finalist for three of the world’s largest aerospace economic development projects, including Indonesia’s IPTN aircraft manufacturing facility (we won this project, but it was cancelled in an ensuing political crisis in Indonesia), McDonnell Douglas’ MD12 assembly plant and Boeing’s 787 assembly facility. These projects brought attention to the region’s extraordinary advantages: a uniquely integrated transportation infrastructure, including adjacent deep water port, airfield, interstates and rail lines; an outstanding quality of life; a skilled and dedicated workforce; strong political support; and most important, a unique regional economic development team spanning two states and five counties. In 2001, with support from state-wide economic development organizations, leaders from Mobile and Baldwin Counties and the Mobile Airport Authority launched an aggressive aerospace marketing strategy, investing more time and resources in aerospace trade events, including air shows in Paris, Singapore, London and Berlin to pursue major aerospace projects. Today, Airbus is building an aircraft Engineering Center at Brookley and EADS-CASA is expanding their new CN-235 aircraft support and delivery facility at Mobile Regional Airport. Northrop Grumman and EADS-North America selected Brookley to build a $600 million military aerial refueling tanker assembly facility. Raytheon and EADS-CASA chose Mobile Regional Airport to locate a military cargo aircraft assembly and delivery operation. Together these companies comprise an aerospace industry cluster that anchors an aerospace corridor stretching along Interstate-10 from Florida to Louisiana. We are now poised to create one of the nation’s largest aerospace industrial regions. | ||
