Mobile Regional Airport Improvement Projects Continue
Work to improve the Mobile Regional Airport continues with major projects including: repaving of all parking lots, installation of new ceiling tiles, a sprinkler system and lighting, construction of an exit stairwell and increased exposure on Facebook.com and mobairport.com. The Mobile Airport Authority strives to keep airport patrons aware of improvements taking place at our facility.
Lighting, Ceiling Tile, and Sprinkler System Project Nears Completion
The lighting, ceiling tile, and fire suppression system upgrades are near completion at Mobile Regional Airport. The Authority has completed Phase I, Phase II, Phase III and, the final phase, Phase IV with new lighting, ceiling tiles, and a fire suppression system installed in the police hallway, police department, ticketing, baggage claim, concourse, gate areas, second floor areas near the security screening checkpoint and the high ceilings over the main lobby. Work on these areas is now complete with the exception of some soffit lighting. The new lighting will be more energy efficient, helping to reduce the Airport’s carbon footprint.
Stairwell Relocation and Demolition Complete
On August 18, 2008, construction of a new exit stairwell, near the passenger gate area, began. Since that time, the new exit has been unveiled and the old exit stairwell, across from Hudson News, Carpe Diem Coffee and Tea, and the Cruise City Bar and Grill, has been demolished. The removal of this exit allows passengers a clear view of their gate while walking down the concourse or resting in the concession seating areas.
Progress Continues on Airport Parking Lot Repaving Project
Project
Work to repave the short-term, long-term and car rental lots at Mobile Regional Airport continues. To date, the east and west sections of the short-term parking lot and the west section of the long-term parking lot have been repaved. Over the summer months, the Authority will select a contractor to finish repaving the remaining sections of the long-term and car rental lots. The contractor, when chosen, will also be responsible for erecting new signage, new gates, and new ticketing equipment, including a credit card ticketing machine. In order to minimize the impact to our passengers the Authority will cordon off only small sections of the airport parking lot to be repaved at a time. To date, a request for proposals has been posted. The contractor, to complete this project, will be selected by August 2009.
Information Sharing Increases at Mobile Regional Airport
In an effort to inform our passengers of on-going projects and improvements at Mobile Regional Airport, the Mobile Airport Authority is expanding its outreach effort to social media outlets and the web. The Mobile Regional Airport continues to update the website, www.mobairport.com. Last week new pages were added including a page on available properties for lease, a maintenance request form for tenants and a tenant directory. Additional changes will be made throughout the summer and into the fall. The Mobile Regional Airport has also started a Facebook page and become a “tweeter” on Twitter. Come and visit us! Our Facebook keyword is “Mobile Regional Airport” and our Twitter keyword is “iFLYmobile.” Join us as we strive to offer our customers the best experience possible!
Many of the abovementioned projects are funded, all or in-part, by Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grants.
