Weather Forecast

Since the 1930s, we have proudly served the air transportation needs of the people of the Gulf Coast. Today, we continue to upgrade our facility and offer all a range of air travel’s most modern amenities. As an independent, self-funded entity we do it all without local tax dollars.

Airport Visitors Enjoy Holiday Festivities

Local Mobile and Baldwin County schools are helping “deck the halls” of Mobile Regional Airport. Twelve elementary schools are participating in the 3rd Annual Christmas Tree Decorating Contest. Schools include, Indian Springs, St. Mary’s, St. Paul’s, Leinkauf, Oak Park Christian, Calcedeaver, Burroughs, St. Dominic, and Dixon Elementary.

To participate in the contest, schools must choose a theme for their tree, create ornaments, and assemble their tree at the airport. Themes this year include: “Sounds of the Season,” “Joy to the Earth (recycle),” “Angel of Hurricane Katrina,” and “SCC College Football.” Themed trees are located on the second floor atrium near the security screening check point and will be on display until after the New Year.

On December 15th, winners of the Christmas Tree Decorating Contest were announced. First place was awarded to St. Mary’s Angel of Hurricane Katrina tree, second place to Indian Spring’s Celebrating Flight Tree, and third place to St. Dominic's Touch of France Tree. Trees were judged on 3 major criteria, originality/creativity, student participation, and appearance. The first place winner received $400 to go toward classroom activities, the second place winner $300, and the third place winner $200.

Airport passengers may have also heard singing and a few Ho Ho’s as they passed through the airport this past December. Santa Claus visited the airport daily to pass out treats, listen to children’s Christmas wishes and spread holiday cheer.

Santa was accompanied by 12 elementary, middle and high school choirs who serenaded passengers with holiday carols. Schools that participated were E.R. Dickson, Orchard Elementary, Pillans, Semmes Middle, Baker High, Denton Middle, Hankins Middle, Semmes Elementary, Davidson High, J.E. Turner , Davidson High, and Saraland Elementary.

The 4th Annual Christmas Tree Decorating Contest will kick-off November 27, 2006 and choirs begin programs December 4th. Mark your calendars!
