Our Story


Robert E. Lusk, Jr.

Robert was born in raised in the River Region area of Montgomery, Autauga, and Elmore County. He attended public school in Elmore County and graduated from Stanhope Elmore High School in 1979. Robert was active in in numerous extracurricular activities in high school and college including marching, concert and stage band. He is an accomplished musician and over the years has served as keyboard accompanist and organist for several churches. During his senior year of high school and throughout college and law school, Robert worked at least part-time, in the grocery business for Bruno’s Inc. He worked his way up through the ranks from bag boy, to cashier, and eventually to assistant front-end manager. During this time, he maintained a full academic load in college and law school, where he made the Dean’s List at Auburn University at Montgomery, was a member of Pi Sigma Alpha, National Political Science Honorary Society (President 1983), and Farrah Law Society. Robert knows hard-work and the demands of managing work, school, and family.

Robert received his undergraduate degree from Auburn University at Montgomery in 1984 and his law degree from The University of Alabama School of Law in 1987.

He has been a member of the Alabama State Bar since 1987. He served as Assistant General Counsel for the Alabama State Bar from October 1995 until March 2013. Prior to joining the Alabama State Bar, he served as Chief Counsel/Deputy District Attorney for the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office where he was responsible for Responsible for felony and capital crimes prosecution, white collar crime investigations and prosecutions, supervision of the District Attorney’s Worthless Check Unit, Child Support Enforcement Unit and Pre-Trial Diversion Unit. Robert also served as Assistant Attorney General for the State of Alabama where he was responsible for criminal trial and appellate cases in state and federal courts, providing Attorney General advisory opinions to state agencies and officers, was General Legal Counsel for the Alabama State Board of Podiatry and the State of Alabama Soil and Water Conservation Committee. He also served as Law Clerk to Circuit Judge H. Randall Thomas, and during law school clerked for the firm of Crownover and Black. Robert has more than 25 years’ experience in the practice of law.

As disciplinary counsel for the Alabama State Bar, he provided oversight to investigations of grievances filed against lawyers, prosecuted lawyer disciplinary cases before the Disciplinary Commission, Disciplinary Board, and Alabama Supreme Court. He also he has trial and appellate experience in civil and criminal cases in both state and federal courts. Robert is admitted to practice before the Northern, Middle and Southern United States District Courts in Alabama, as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit.

He has served as the Alabama State Bar staff liaison to the Alabama State Bar Client Security Fund Committee. He has also served as the Alabama State Bar’s liaison and professional responsibility advisor to the Family Law Section of the state bar, providing assistance to the family law section board of directors and its executive committee on professional responsibility and compliance with Alabama State Bar policies and procedures.

He also served on the Alabama Child Custody Laws Revision Task Force, Task Force on Legal Education, Task Force on Admissions, Task Force on Client Security Fund, and Committee on Rules and Disciplinary Enforcement. He was a principal drafter of the 2006, 2007 and 2008 amendments to the Rules Governing Admission of the Alabama State Bar; the 1999, 2000, 2005, and 2008 amendments to the Alabama Rules of Disciplinary Procedure; the 2008 and 2009 amendments to the Alabama Rules of Professional Conduct; the 2010 amendments to the Client Security Fund Rules, and the 2007 amendments to the Family Law Section by-laws. He also served on the Alabama Law Institute Uniform Interstate Family Support Act Committee, the Uniform Collaborative Law Committee, and the Uniform Parentage Act Committee that drafted legislation, which was adopted by the Alabama Legislature in 2009. Robert is currently promoting the formation of a committee by the Alabama Law Institute to revise Alabama’s Adoption Code. He also served on the Joint Legislative Family Law Task Force.

Robert has serves as a trainer for the Alabama Administrative Office of the Courts’ Mandatory Guardian Ad Litem Training and is a member of the Alabama John R. Justice Law Advisory Committee.

Robert has been a member of the Elmore County Board of Education since 2008. He is active in the Alabama Association for School Boards and recently assisted with drafting the Alabama Student’s First Act. He is also a member of Advisory Board of Elmore County Education Foundation; Past-PTO President Robinson Springs Elementary School, and a member of the Stanhope Elmore High School Quarterback Club.
Robert and his wife, Cathy, have been married for 28 years and have three teen-age daughters, ages 14, 13 and 13. They are active members of Coosada Baptist Church in Coosada, Alabama. When they are not attending fast-pitch softball games, cheerleading or swim meets, they enjoy spending time walking along the bay in Fairhope and watching the sunset.
